Day 2
Khustai and a herder family
Takhi horses in Khustai National Park, then a night in a working nomad family's ger with about an hour of horse riding.
Day 3
Terelj in the snow
Winter hiking, Turtle Rock and the meditation temple. Ger camp.
Day 4
Chinggis Khaan statue and skiing
The statue complex, then Sky Resort for ski lessons and slope time with equipment rental included. Hotel.
Day 5
Departure
Airport transfer after breakfast.
Day 6
Long version only: north to the frozen lake
The 11-day expedition instead drives to Murun and Ulaan-Uul, visits the reindeer herders in the Zuun Taiga, then reaches Khuvsgul over the Jigleg pass for a two-hour horse-sledding excursion on the ice.

Accommodation

Short version: two nights in a 3-star Ulaanbaatar hotel, one night in a tourist ger camp with shared Western bathrooms, one night in a family ger with none. Long version: 3 hotel nights in Ulaanbaatar, 2 local-hotel nights in Murun, a log-house night at a lodge, 2 nights in a shared wooden house or teepee at the reindeer camp, and 2 ger camp nights at the lake.

Vehicle

Ground transport throughout; the 11-day northern expedition includes no domestic flight, which is a large part of why it is graded Hard. Winter driving is on packed snow and frozen river ice, so vehicle condition and the driver's local knowledge matter more than in summer. Horse sleds replace vehicles on the lake itself.

What overnight temperatures should you actually pack for, and does the operator lend a parka or boots?
Are the gers stove-heated overnight, and does somebody re-light them?

Are the reindeer camps reachable by vehicle in winter, or does it involve horse sleds?
What happens if a frozen crossing is not safe — is there a fallback itinerary?
Are ice-festival dates confirmed before you book flights?
